Timothée Chalamet Admitted He Lost Out on Many Roles Because He Didn’t Have the ‘Right Body’

Timothée Chalamet has had roles in both box office smash successes and award winning indie films. The young actor has become one of the most sought after stars in Hollywood, but he said it wasn’t always this way. Early in his career, Chalamet said he couldn’t land the types of roles he wanted. He said he continued to get the feedback that he didn’t have the right body for the parts.

When Chalamet started his career, he auditioned for major films and franchises. He said nobody wanted to give him these parts.

“I would always get the same feedback,” he told Rolling Stone. “‘Oh, you don’t have the right body.’ I had an agent call me once and say, ‘I’m tired of getting the same feedback. We’re gonna stop submitting you for these bigger projects, because you’re not putting on weight.’”

He said this wasn’t for lack of trying. He struggled to put on weight.

“I was trying to put on weight,” he said, adding, “I couldn’t! I basically couldn’t. My metabolism or whatever the f*** couldn’t do it.”

Ultimately, though, the turn his career took was good for him. He received an Oscar nomination for his role in Call Me By Your Name and has received critical acclaim for further roles.

“I was knocking on one door that wouldn’t open,” he said. “So I went to what I thought was a more humble door, but actually ended up being explosive for me.

Timothée Chalamet shared how this helped his role as Bob Dylan

Chalamet is portraying Bob Dylan in the 2024 film A Complete Unknown. He said his early career struggles reminded him of Dylan’s.

“If he couldn’t become Elvis or Buddy Holly immediately,” Chalamet explained, “he found Woody Guthrie and stuff that was a little more accomplishable, and happened to be really good at it. And that immediately hit a bone with me.”

He also spoke about honing his talent

Chalamet said that another reason he connected to Dylan was because of the way he presented his talent. It was just an inherent part of him.

“I related to the feeling that my talent could be my talent,” he said. “I could draw the picture of an unconventional upbringing. I grew up in arts housing, Manhattan Plaza, which is a funky way to grow up. I could try to paint it negatively to you. I could try to paint it positively, but it’s a bit of everything. It’s nuanced.”

He didn’t think he could or needed to point to a specific point in his life that turned him into an actor. It was always within him.

“I don’t need to point to some thing in my youth. Your talent is your talent,” he said. “The thing you gotta say is the thing you gotta say. You don’t need the Big Bang.”

This December, the film A Complete Unknown will tell the story of Bob Dylan’s arrival in New York City up until his infamous decision to go electric. Dylan has had some involvement in the film’s production. While none of the actors have met him, he has met with director James Mangold to share his thoughts on the biopic. Dylan told Mangold that he wanted one scene to be entirely fictional.

While A Complete Unknown follows Dylan’s life relatively truthfully, there are several alterations to history. Monica Barbaro, who plays Joan Baez, admitted she bristled against this at first. She wanted to show Baez’s story as accurately as possible.

She didn’t like that Dylan and Baez sang “Girl From the North Country” together when there is no evidence of this happening in real life. She also pushed back against scenes in which Baez and Dylan played guitars together, as he was usually the one who handled the instrument. The director believed these tweaks made a better film.

“[Mangold] was like, ‘I just love that image so much,’” Barbaro told Rolling Stone.

He added that this was a movie, not a completely accurate depiction of Dylan’s life.

“You can’t make it like a Wikipedia entry,” he said.

Dylan himself reportedly pushed for even greater diversions from the truth. According to Edward Norton, who plays Pete Seeger in the film, Dylan told Mangold to include at least one “totally inaccurate” moment in the film. While Mangold had strayed from reality in some places, he worried that a complete departure might irritate audiences.

Dylan’s request likely doesn’t come as a surprise to many of his fans, who have come to expect the musician’s fabrications. Dylan’s stories about his life have contradicted themselves over the years. Some Dylan experts even believe that he invented entire sections of his biography.

“Jesus Christ, as far as I can tell almost everything in the Oh Mercy section of Chronicles is a work of fiction,” Dylan biographer Clinton Heylin said, per Rolling Stone. “I enjoy Chronicles as a work of literature, but it has a much basis in reality as [Dylan’s 2003 film] Masked And Anonymous, and why shouldn’t it? He’s not the first guy to write a biography that’s a pack of lies.”

“He never wanted to take the easy way out,” his guitar teacher, Larry Saltzman, said. “If I presented something to him like, ‘OK, this is the real way, but there’s a little bit of a shortcut,’ his answer to that was always ‘Don’t show me the shortcut.’”

“[Rotolo was] a very private person and didn’t ask for this life,” Fanning told Rolling Stone. “She was obviously someone that was very special and sacred to Bob.”

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs Admitted 1 Girlfriend Made Him ‘Nervous’ When They Met

Kim Porter was Sean “Diddy” Combs’ longtime girlfriend. The couple began dating in 1994, broke up and reunited after several years apart, and stayed together until 2007. Combs said that while he immediately took an interest in Porter, it took him a while to make a move. He admitted that she made him nervous.

Andre Harrell, the head of Uptown Records, hired Porter as a receptionist. He said it was clear Combs liked Porter from the moment he saw her.

“Puff was in love with her from the first time he saw her,” Harrell told Essence. “You could tell from the way he looked at her.”

Combs said he waited to talk to her, though.

“She kind of made me nervous,” Combs said, adding, “She wasn’t like a New York girl. She was Bohemian, mixed with Georgia-peach hospitality. I got the idea she’d like doing stuff like walking barefoot in the grass. I didn’t think I could get her to like me.”

He said that while her personality made him nervous, it impressed him.

“She was smooth, you know, like ice,” he said. “She’s cool and collected and thinks before she speaks. You meet a lot of young ladies, and they just don’t do that. Kim was never pressed; she was always in control.”

While Combs initially liked Porter’s reserved nature, it eventually became a problem for him. He said he wanted a partner who could match his energy.

“I’m used to applause when I walk in the room and she was just too cool,” he said. “I would tell her, ‘I guess I’ll go be with someone else who’ll take care of me the way I want to be taken care of, who’ll be a little more aggressive.’”

That person was Jennifer Lopez. The couple had a high-profile relationship until 2001.

“Jennifer was my perfect match in terms of energy,” he said. “I thought, ‘I’ll test the waters and hopefully Kim will see I’m serious and come running after me.’”

Kim Porter shared why she ended their relationship for good

After Combs and Lopez’s relationship ended, Porter said he worked hard to regain her trust. They got back together and had twin daughters. By 2007, though, she’d had enough. Porter said there were many factors that led to the end of their relationship, including the child Combs had with another woman.

Porter said they were still able to remain friends after their relationship ended.
