While Ysabel, Paedon, and Gwendlyn have all seemingly made their feelings known, Truly Brown may be the most bothered.

Truely Brown is Christine Brown’s youngest child. As the only minor child left at home, Christine’s dating decisions have affected her more than her much older siblings. Season 19 of Sister Wives suggests that the teenager wasn’t thrilled with her mother’s full-steam-ahead approach to her budding romance, at least initially.

In a recent episode of Sister Wives, Truely joined her mother and now-stepfather on an outing. David, mostly ignoring the fact that Truely was in the back seat, wrapped his arm around his partner. Truely took the opportunity to bite him. The bite, an odd move for a then-preteen child, might indicate discomfort with the physical closeness between David and Christine.

It wasn’t the only time fans suspect Truely was expressing her discomfort. She seemed to express her feelings in other moments, too. Fans of the famed series note that the youngest of Christine’s children actively tried to put physical space between her mother and eventual stepfather several times in recent episodes. She looked visibly bothered by the duo’s public displays of affection, as well. In social media photos from early on in the romance, she seemed to be protecting her space, too.

In the newest installment of TLC’s Sister Wives, Kody Brown helps ex Meri Brown move out of Flagstaff, Arizona, and into her Parowan, Utah home. However, as his tears flow over saying goodbye to his first wife, two others in the room silently judge him and steal the scene.

Over the past decade, Sister Wives star Kody Brown moved emotionally further away from his first wife, Meri Brown. He’s said many times on-camera how much he doesn’t care about Meri, therefore keeping her hanging on in their marriage for years.

In a scene from the TLC series‘ Nov. 24 episode, Kody’s tears flow. He realizes that she’s the last piece of his old life that remains, and with her gone, a period is put on the family they created over 30 years prior.

“It’s the end of an era,” Kody cries as he pulls Meri into an embrace. “It is,” Meri agrees, but appears confused as to why he got so emotional over her exit.

“We had something,” Kody begins as Meri adds, “We had something really good.” Kody continues, “We had something special, and it feels like it all went to s***. “

“I’m not bitter anymore. I’m glad you and I got it figured out and we’re able to be friends and I’m glad you’re my favorite ex-wife,” Kody concluded of his and Meri’s relationship.

However, it’s Meri’s friends Jen Sullivan and Nathan Dilts who steal the show, as they are forced to awkwardly listen to this interaction. The duo turns their heads away from the couple, trying to give them space. But, by the looks on their face, they’re silently judging Kody after years of watching their friend be emotionally abandoned.

In a Reddit thread, fans discussed the scene. They didn’t buy Kody Brown’s tears over the end of his marriage to Meri Brown.

“The best thing about this clip is the panning over to Jen and Nathan. They aren’t buying what he is saying at all. LOVE IT!!!” wrote one Reddit.

“They are far more restrained friends than I would have been able to be in that moment. I think I would have busted out laughing to his face at this performance lol,” noted a second viewer.

A third penned, “Jen stopping herself from screaming “You’re not bitter? You’re not angry?” Besides that obviously not being true, what grounds would he be bitter and angry at her?”

“Y’all truly would have seen me with my hand straight up over my mouth and my other friend smacking me saying “stop making your face look like that. Stop making that face we’re on TV,” a fourth claimed.

So why was Kody Brown crying over the end of his marriage to Meri Brown?

There are several theories as to why Kody Brown may have gotten emotional over the end of his marriage to Meri Brown. They all have to do with his ego.

Kody liked to be in charge of not only his life but the lives of his wives and children. That has been demonstrated time and again throughout 19 seasons of Sister Wives.

Meri taking charge of her own life and breaking ties with Kody after years of neglect hurt his ego. He wasn’t calling the shots, and that hurt him.

Perhaps Kody fully realizes the consequences of his actions after abandoning Meri, Janelle, and Christine Brown, and their children. He reportedly has little or no interaction with many of his adult children.

Christine Brown is quickly losing her title as a fan favorite in season 19 of Sister Wives. While most of the criticism about the TV personality centers around her relationship with David Woolley, there are problematic behaviors that have absolutely nothing to do with him.

In fact, her pettiness towards Kody Brown and Robyn Brown early in the season seems to have changed how many viewers see Christine Brown.

In the season’s earlier episodes, fans took to social media to call out Christine for acting petty during a family event. They labeled refusal to acknowledge that Kody and Robyn were in attendance as problematic behavior. No one expects her to meet up with them for coffee and chat, but being cordial would go a long way. She cemented fan feelings during a confessional, where she said she didn’t feel like she should be pleasant to Kody, even though they share children and will need to be in the same room throughout their lives, hopefully.

It appears the most popular version of Janelle’s shirt piggybacks on something her ex-husband Kody Brown said to her during a huge season 18 blowout on Sister Wives. His toxic remarks and attitude were present when he called Janelle “the Teflon Queen” after blaming her for not following his coronavirus (COVID-19) rules.

A third Redditor claimed, “Maybe she can offer a knife in the kidneys shirt and give Christine a cut. Would love all these women to make bank from rising above his cruelty.”

Sister Wives Kody Brown’s negativity toward his ex-wives and their children has deeply affected their relationships. Kody is disliked for not only his negative reactions, but lack of action toward mending fences with his family. This behavior allowed him to become perhaps the worst husband and father ever seen on reality TV.

1. Kody Brown discarded his wives after marrying Robyn Brown

During the early seasons of TLC’s Sister Wives, the Browns were depicted as a cohesive family unit. Kody was their goofy and caring patriarch. He believed in polygamy and appeared to have a clear affection for wives Meri, Janelle, Christine, and Robyn Brown.

However, as history has revealed itself, Kody was anything but. The events pictured in the show were an effort to make the family look better than it was functioning.

It has since been discussed at length by Janelle and Christine Brown, and some of their adult children, that Kody abandoned them once he married Robyn. Christine once said during a Sister Wives 2023 tell-all, “I feel like to Kody, Robyn’s more important, certainly than I am. I know it and everybody knows it.”

She added, “It’s sad and it sucks, but my relationship with Kody isn’t as important. It’s not. No matter what he says it isn’t.”

However, Robyn and Kody maintained he was a good father and husband, and it was his wives’ fault that he never spent time with them. Robyn agreed in a TLC tell-all episode; “They handed him to me and said ‘We don’t want to spend time with him.”

Kody made a statement regarding Meri, but true to all his broken marriages, “Don’t blame me for not loving you. I was doing my duty. Blame yourself if I don’t love you, OK?”

2. Kody Brown blames his kids for broken relationships

Some of Janelle and Christine’s children have spoken out about their father’s abandonment. Those who have been public in their comments against Kody include Gwendolyn, Maddie, Garrison, Ysabel, Gabriel, Paedon, and Mykelti Brown.

“Some people think that parental-child relationships don’t have to be reciprocal, but when they’re adults, yes they do,” said Maddie during an episode of her podcast The Authentic Society. She continued, “He doesn’t have any respect for boundaries, and you have to play by his rules, and I just don’t care to do that.”

Garrison shared his feelings in a Season 18 episode, saying, “We’ve reached out and tried to be open, but it’s been neglected and overlooked for offenses that were believed to have happened but they never did.” Paedon told John Yates in a YouTube interview that Kody was trying to censor the older children from speaking out against him or they would be sued.

Ysabel expressed in a season 18 episode of Sister Wives that her relationship with her dad had “never been 100% solid.” Mykelti shared on her Patreon that she and her siblings need Kody to say “I’m sorry. I know what I did wrong, how can I fix it, what can I do?”

Finally, Gwendyln Brown exclaimed on a YouTube video, “Oh my God, imagine your father loving you,” while Gabriel Brown said that Kody wanted him to apologize for the issues in their relationship. He told his mother, Janelle, “Eventually, I was just like, ‘Hey, unless you’re, like, actually ready to have a relationship and fix things, then we’re not going to talk anymore.”

3. Kody lacks accountability for his mistakes

He blamed Meri for the dissolution of their marriage. Kody said, “You know what really sucks? It’s not divorce that sucks. What sucks is marrying the wrong person.”

Kody Brown’s marriages to three of his four wives might be over, but the Sister Wives stars are still entangled financially.

In the Nov. 10 episode of the TLC reality series, Meri Brown and Janelle Brown sat down to talk about the future of the family’s troubled Coyote Pass property. Janelle said she feels the need to “protect” herself because she fears that Kody might fail to pay a note on the jointly-owned piece of land, causing them to lose the property.

“Kody keeps telling me he doesn’t have money,” Janelle told her former sister wife as they discussed their stake in the property. Because neither woman was legally married to Kody at the time they split, Coyote Pass is the only significant asset each will take from their marriage.

‘Sister Wives’ family’s ‘biggest struggles have been financial’

The complicated Coyote Pass situation is just the latest financial mess for the Sister Wives family. Money issues were causing tension between Kody and wives long before they started debating how to handle the large parcel of land outside of Flagstaff, where they once intended to build homes for each wife.

In their 2012 book Becoming Sister Wives, Kody admitted that providing for his large family was often a challenge.

“Our biggest struggles have been financial,” he wrote. “There have been lean times. It took me longer than I’d hoped to establish myself in a career, especially with wives to support.”

“Money was really tight,” Kody’s third wife Christine Brown wrote.

“Paying the bills was always a challenge – we never had enough money no matter how hard we worked,” Janelle recalled.

Before his reality TV career, Kody worked in advertising sales, which he described as “a tough way to make a living.” Janelle and Meri both had jobs outside the home, while Christine was primarily a stay-at-home mom. Robyn, who joined the family in 2010, also stayed home with her kids.

Kody Brown insisted that his was a ‘family of equals’

In Becoming Sister Wives, Kody insisted that when it came to finances, the Browns were “a family of equals.”

“All of my income goes to the family,” he explained, while the wives all “contribute significantly to both their individual households and the family as a whole.”

“If another wife makes a bundle while her sister wife is looking after the kids, she will share her bounty,” he added.

But in reality, that system didn’t always work. Initially, the Browns tried sharing a single bank account for all expenses, but that caused problems, Meri recalled, especially because she was the one actually in charge of paying the bills.

“Janelle felt that I was controlling the finances,” Meri wrote. Eventually, each wife got her own separate bank account, which gave them more autonomy.

Later, when Robyn joined the family and they started making money from the show, they became more “a team financially,” Kody’s fourth wife said.

“We split all of our money evenly and help each other out,” Robyn wrote. “This has unified us and evened out any sense of financial inferiority or instability any of us may have had previously. We are all equal.”

Robyn and Kody aren’t living within their means, Gwendlyn Brown claims

While Robyn claimed the Brown family operated as one financial unit, there have been signs for years that she might be benefiting more than the other wives.

The family reportedly helped her pay off thousands of dollars of credit card debt she brought into the marriage. They also funded her unsuccessful jewelry business. Later, when the family moved from Las Vegas to Flagstaff, Meri and Janelle helped pay for her nearly $1 million house. Meanwhile, Janelle was living in a trailer and Meri was renting a house.

Now Robyn is Kody’s only wife, but her financial situation is precarious, one family member says. The couple is living beyond their means, according to Kody’s daughter Gwendyn Brown.

“I think that my dad and Robyn have a terrible habit of spending very crazy and, like, not within their means at all,” Gwendlyn said in a March 2024 YouTube video. “But also Janelle Brown and Meri Brown are kind of similar to my mom [Christine Brown] and that they’re not gonna be salty or petty and try to take money from him even though they totally deserve it because he’s been spending all of their money on whatever.”

Janelle Brown might be spending most of her time in North Carolina now, but she still has some business to address in Arizona. Janelle is currently trying to sell her late son’s home, but she’s not having much luck. Since listing it for sale in September, the Sister Wives star has dropped the price on the house Garrison Brown owned twice.

The home of Garrison Brown is officially for sale, but it is languishing in a challenging real estate market. According to Zillow, the property was listed for sale in September 2024, six months after the 25-year-old was found dead inside the property. It was initially listed for $425,000.

The following month, Janelle dropped the price by $25,000. In November, the sale price was lowered by another $10,000. His estate is currently asking $389,000 for the four-bedroom, two-bathroom condo. Garrison, whose legal name was Robert Garrison Brown, purchased the house in 2021 for $329,000. He lived in the home with several roommates until his death.

How did Garrison Brown die?

Garrison died by suicide in March 2024. His younger brother, Gabriel Brown, found him inside a bedroom in his home. According to news reports, Gabriel was asked by their mother to check on the 25-year-old Garrison after he stopped responding to messages. Emergency surfaces responded to the scene and pronounced Garrison dead. Months later, a report indicated that Garrison had a high blood alcohol content at the time of his death. Ethanol intoxication is listed as a contributing factor in his death in official reports.

Janelle Brown and Kody Brown issued a shared statement about the loss of their son immediately following his death. They were spotted together at his memorial service but have had limited contact since. Janelle and Kody had already split up at the time of Garisson’s death. TLC addressed the tragedy in the season premiere of Sister Wives season 19.

Where does Janelle Brown live now?

While Garrison Brown and several of his siblings put down roots in Flagstaff, Janelle was looking to leave the state behind even before her son’s tragic passing. The mother of six closed on a massive plot of land in North Carolina just weeks after Garrison’s death. The more than 100-acre property is near her daughter, Maddie Brush’s home.

Janelle never owned a home in the Flagstaff area. Instead, she rented several apartments during her ill-fated stay in the Grand Canyon State. Before leaving Kody Brown, Janelle hoped to build a house on the Coyote Pass property the family purchased before their 2018 move. It was not meant to be. The property remains undeveloped.

Maddie Brown Brush has cut Kody Brown out of her life. The Sister Wives star has made no secret that she and her father have had a strained relationship for years. Now, she’s confirmed that she’s gone no contact with her dad because of his anger issues and inability to respect her boundaries.

Maddie, 29, opened up about dealing with toxic people in the Nov. 11 episode of her The Authentic Society podcast.

“I have no contact with some of my family,” she told co-host Jayme Byrd.

“I’m a straight shooter,” she explained. “You ask me a question, I’m going to tell you what I think. And [my dad] would get very angry when I would be like, ‘I don’t know why you’re surprised here.’ So that was one of the reasons I went no contact. He didn’t like a mirror being held up.”

The mom of three recalled that when she would call Kody out on his anger, he’d deny being angry.

“He’d be like, ‘That’s not true,’” Maddie said. “I’m like, ‘It is true. I know this firsthand.’ And there’s other people that were the same. They’d ask for my opinion and I’d express my opinion and they’d get angry.”

The ‘Sister Wives’ star won’t play by Kody’s rules

To establish some guardrails with her family, Maddie needed to take a step back.

“There’s a point where you need to figure out what your boundaries are. And there’s so much noise from these family members or these friends,” she said. “It’s like, I need a break to figure out who I am without all this that comes with it.”

For Maddie, that also involved putting physical distance between herself and her family. She and her husband Caleb Brush live in North Carolina, more than 1,500 miles from where she grew up in Utah.

As Maddie navigates complicated family relationships, she also has to deal with people who feel entitled to weigh in on her personal life. The breakdown of the Brown family has played out in the public eye, and she sometimes hears from Sister Wives fans who urge her to work on her relationship with Kody.

“I always get messages from people who are like, ‘You should just forgive your dad and respect him.’ And I’m like, I don’t think you know what you’re talking about,” she said. “Because your experience with your dad could be very different than my experience with my dad … He doesn’t have any respect for boundaries. You have to play by his rules. And I just don’t care to do that.”

The old saying “blood is thicker than water” doesn’t ring true for Maddie.

“Some people just don’t deserve to be in your life,” she said.
